THE BRAND
In the mid-1990s, TOM FORD met with international success, drawing inspiration from the aesthetics developed by Gianni Versace, and propelling, with Carine Roitfeld, porno-chic as an image of a fashion house: he was to transform the old Italian leather goods manufacturer GUCCI into a premier luxury and sexy company. When Gucci acquired the house of Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) in 1999, Ford was named Creative Director of that label as well.
Carrying out functions much broader than “stylist”, his image and marketing work was a source of inspiration in the following years for many fashion houses wishing to return to the front of the scene.
